Chanel Resort 2017

No one knows how to combine two cultures in an absolute harmony better than Karl Lagerfeld.

Chanel’s Métiers D’art shows are the perfect example. Its runway shows that take place outside the traditional fashion schedule, each year, on a different location than the traditional fashion capitals, are their way of paying tribute to the local craftsmen, artisan partners, and workshops that provide the fashion house with the details that make haute couture haute couture: everything from lace to silver buttons and fine embroidery work.

This year Chanel’s Resort fashion show, held in Havana, Cuba reminded me a bit of their Métiers D’art shows. Let’s take the beret for example: originally French, but also a very iconic item of clothing always worn by Che Guevara. The looks Lagerfeld designed onto the catwalk this year were very often accessorized by a beret. Would that be a coincidence or a perfect match for a French fashion house’s collection presented in Cuba? I would say the latter. And that’s not the only thing! Have a look at some of my favorites from the show!
