It seems London designers have collectively rebelled against the high heel. Flat shoes were everywhere on the London catwalks.

Burberry Prorsum favored lace-up sneakers and Birkenstock-like sandals in colorful leather. Christopher Kane opted for plastic slippers in black and burgundy leather, while Temperley launched her own sneaker line.

But the rise of the sneaker is just part of the popularity of sportswear. After last year’s neoprene and scuba-inspired designer clothes, this year cricket, tennis, bowling, and cycling were designers’ favorite sports. Topshop sent Cara Delevingne on the runway in a tennis dress, and boot maker Hunter Original filled its runway with Boy Scout-style shirts and shorts, colorful rain jackets and hooded parkas.

To cover-up next spring, according to Burberry the jeans jacket is the best option. Of course, the luxury brand’s famous trench coats highlighted the finale, but the English fashion house opened its show with dark, slim-cut denim jackets and several other cropped jackets worn over delicate cocktail dresses.
